Joan C. Davis

Joan Crumpley Davis was born in Jacksonville to local artist Mamie Crumpley.

Joan moved to Middleburg in 1969, and commuted daily to an office on Riverside Avenue, within walking distance of the Cummer Museum, a great source of inspiration,

After retiring in 1999, she discovered an inherent interest in photography, drawing, and painting, and began acrylics lessons from another great source of inspiration, local artist Allison Watson.

The subject of this square, Bag o' Clams, Comes from Joan's acrylic painting of Cedar Key clams. The original 18" x 14" painting resides in Cedar Key with her nephew, Rick Crumpley, who is a part of the clamming industry.

After serving as subjects for the painting, the clams were served as lunch.
